Tribu Ilongganon bags nat'l street dancing group award in Dagupan
Though they lost in the recent Aliwan festival competition, the Tribu Ilongganon was considered by Dagupan City as the "national street dancing group" for its spectacular exhibition performance during the Kalutan Ed Dagupan, the focal activity of Dagupan Bangus Festival 2006.
In the resolution authored by Councilor Michael B. Fernandez, Dagupan City conveyed its sincere gratitude and appreciation to the "Iloilo City Dinagyang Festival National Street Dancing Champion Group" for its spectacular exhibition performance during the Kalutan Ed Dagupan last April 30, 2006.
The same resolution said one major factor that greatly contributed to the general success of the Dagupan Festival was the participation of several organizations, entities or groups in the various activities.
One of the groups that performed in the Dagupan Bangus Festival was Tribu Ilongganon. Ilongganon recently lost to Cebu City in the Aliwan festival competition. The decision of the judges created different reactions among the spectators. However, the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. executive director Ben Jimena accepted their defeat and chose not to contest the decision.
"The clockwork timing and precision of the Dinagyang dancers not to mention their attractive costumes, unquestionably added color, significance and prestige to Dagupan Bangus Festival 2006," the resolution stated..
Today, the Tribu Ilongganon will also perform in Manila for the 108th Philippine Independence Day celebration. They will join in the national parade and will perform at the CCP.
Earlier, the Tribu Ilongganon was intentionally deleted from the list of the performers in today's independence day celebration. However, the chief executive and the IDFI find ways to sent the group and performed in Manila.
