GK Heroes Build project launched today
As their way of commemorating the 108th Philippine Independence, the Gawad Kalinga (GK) will be launching the GK Heroes Build in 730 GK sites nationwide.
In Iloilo City, GK will start to build houses at Jubilee GK Village in Buntatala, Jaro through the Archdiocese of Jaro; Uswag PLDT/SMART GK Village in Iloilo through the city local government unit; Immaculate Concepcion Chicago GK Village in Barangay Loong, Concepcion, Iloilo; San Lorenzo Malta GK Village in Barangay Bacjawan, also in the town of Concepcion and Farmer's/PFSA-Canada GK Village in Barangay San Geronimo, Barotac Viejo.
Gawad Kalinga worker Peter Tiu said they want to be part of history by making a difference for every life in need and let themselves be heroes by building more houses, and more villages.
Tiu urged those who want to get involved in Monday's activity to bring construction tools like spade, pails and other provisions.
In Iloilo City alone, Gawad Kalinga wants to build 326 houses for poor families. The building of houses is a pooled effort of the local government, national officials, private sectors and Filipino communities from abroad.
In Sooc, the GK along with the concerned sponsors have already started to build homes. The recipients of GK homes are assessed according to their needs and the cooperation they extended whenever the GK calls for a meeting.
Meanwhile, the city and provincial governments of Iloilo have prepared separate morning programs in celebration of the Philippine Independence Day.
City and provincial employees had been required to attend the respective programs although Monday is a non-working holiday.
The provincial government will hold a program at the Capitol grounds to be led by Governor Niel Tupas, Sr. and other provincial officials.
The city government on the other hand will hold a program at the newly renovated Rizal Monument at the Plaza Libertad to be led by Mayor Jerry Treñas and other city officials.
