The "Tulong Barya Para sa Eskwela" campaign of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) was formally launched here in this city at the I. Arroyo Elementary School, North Fundidor, Molo yesterday.
Public elementary schools in the country are the target beneficiaries of this nationwide donation campaign since all the funds to be raised will be turned-over to the Department of Education (DepEd).
The program is a component of the National Coin Recirculation Program of the BSP that encourages the public to accept and use coins regularly to keep them circulating.
"If our circulation program is successful, consumers will be able to receive exact change from their transactions", BSP Iloilo Branch Manager II Hermosa Villa said.
Villa added that with the program the business sector, particularly retail outlets will have sufficient coin supply to serve their customers and the government will generate substantial savings in terms of lower coin production.
Villa said an important component of their strategy in the implementation of this program is to involve as many partner-stakeholders as possible.
"Various sectors have already committed to support this program including the banking sector but we also encourage employee and corporate donations as well", Villa added.
Some of the sectors that have already signified their support to the program include the Philippine Retailers Association, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Employers Confederation of the Philippines, Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Philippine Exporters Confederation, Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association, and the Federation of Petroleum Dealers.
Villa said that aside from coin donations they also welcome checks and banknotes if there are any for the program.
