DA 6 named outstanding RFU in Animal Waste Utilization
The Livestock Development Council (LDC) based at Diliman, Quezon City awarded the Department of Agriculture, Regional Field Unit (DA-RFU) 6, Iloilo City as the Outstanding RFU in animal waste utilization with the construction of Tubular Polyethylene Digester (TPED) in the region.
Director Jindra Linda L. Demeterio, OIC -- Regional Executive Director of DA 6 was grateful that such accomplishment of the livestock sector was given recognition by the LDC during their 30th anniversary celebration.
She added that the construction of the TPED not only signify proper animal waste utilization but can also be an alternative source of energy for the household.
The DA RFU 6 was awarded a plaque of recognition and a cash prize of P30,000.00 which is solely intended as support for the implementation of livestock projects and activities.
According to Johnny Y. Luces, Chief, of the Livestock Sector, the DA RFU 6 has installed 186 TPED projects in Western Visayas from 2001 to 2005.
"This was made possible through the efforts of our very efficient and effective provincial coordinators in the different provinces in the region with the supervision of Mr. Herminio Buendia, the TPED regional coordinator at that time," he added.
The biogas produced by the digester is primary used as fuel for cooking, baking and as source of energy for lighting and power for small engines in the household.
The TPED technology is installed by the Department of Agriculture to interested and qualified livestock farmers in the region.
