Lady brgy capt, treasurer face malversation raps
A woman barangay captain and barangay treasurer of one city barangay have been formally charged with malversation of public funds before the Iloilo City Council.
Complainants were fellow barangay officials themselves, all members of the council of Barangay Lapuz Norte, La Paz district. Respondents are Barangay Captain Eva Nobleza and treasurer Annalej Felarca tagged in the complaint as the ones responsible for alleged fictitious and unsanctioned withdrawals of the barangay's funds.
Total amount "missing" is P405,527 with several of the checks negotiated to two City Hall contractors, Susan Justalero and Pepe Maculada.
In an affidavit obtained by The News Today (TNT), complainant-Kagawads Vivian Delfin, Rene Paredes and Siegfred Madiclum said both contractors "fully knew the falsity of the transactions and abetted/facilitated the withdrawals."
A total of 21 checks were subject of said complaint including alleged purposes stated as "rental of sound system," "declogging of draining system," and the bigger amounts, the barangay council's honorarium.
A demand for explanation and replenishment of the funds were reportedly made however to date such has yet to be realized.
The complaint will be tackled in today's (Wednesday) regular session of the Iloilo City Council.
