University, farmers join forces to improve production
Roxas City -- In order to learn the latest development in research and technology, the farmers in Capiz recently made a strong alliance with the Capiz State University (CapSU).
Through the CapSU's Community Extension Department, farmers in the province would be able to avail the recent trends and updated modern technology that would help improve the palay production in the province.
According to NFA Information Officer Edna Artates, the linkage between the different farmers' cooperatives in the province and CapSU was formalized through the effort of the Provincial Farmer Action Council (PFAC) led by Dr. Aladino Leccio and NFA Provincial Manager Sergio Balofiños.
Artates said that chairpersons of the different farmers cooperatives and associations in the 16 towns including Roxas City came together for the seminar updates on extension, cooperatives, grains retailers confederation (GRECON) in Capiz and NFA programs, projects and services.
During said seminar held at CapSU Roxas City , the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has also provided inputs in support to the programs and projects of the farmers here.
The same farmers' association has lauded the government support to farmers, particularly in terms of buying support price and provision of post harvest facilities and other economic interventions for economic stability.
Accordingly, the government is focused on the socio-economic goals, bent on bringing the macro economic gains down to street and farm level, and will never be distracted in the quest to bring about better paying jobs, more livelihood opportunities and a prosperous and stable nation.
Meanwhile, farmers' cooperatives here have called on the food agency to increase the buying support price of palay to equate with the higher price of farm inputs and prime commodities.
Farmers also insist on NFA on availability of more mechanical drier that could accommodate small farmers who are usually dependent on the price of traders. (PIA)
