The weeklong Western Visayas Tourism Assembly which opens today, October 23, aims to incorporate tourism and marketing strategies in order to sell the festivals and tourism places in the entire region.

Joint inspection team to issue 'clean bill of health' for oil spill affected areas

The joint inspection team of the government conducting air, water and soil laboratory analysis on the oil spill affected areas in the island province of Guimaras is set to release a "clean bill of health" for the affected communities for them to start their new lives.

MariCom-6 to help secure Cebu Asean Summit delegates

The 6th Regional Maritime Office (6th RMO) based in Camp Martin Delgado, Iloilo City will send its best floating asset to Cebu to augment the security preparation that is being done for the upcoming Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in December.

RMO Regional Officer Supt. Cornelio Salinas said among the Maritime Regional Offices nationwide, it is only this region's that has the capability to deploy a patrol boat to the venue of the 2006 summit.

Next week, the Maritime Repair Team from Manila will arrive here to check on the mechanical and electrical parts of Patrol Boat Costosa to ensure that it is in good running condition when sent to Cebu in November.

City's housing backlog continues to swell

The housing problem in the city continue to worsen as the projected housing backlog in the years to come is projected to reach 8,000. In Iloilo City alone, the present housing backlog is 5,850. This even worsens as the Housing and Land Use and Regulatory Board (HLURB) is not closely coordinating with the city government relative to the city's housing problems.
