More school kids avail of UNICEF school supplies
Roxas City -- More school children in Capiz have availed of the various school supplies granted by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) 6th Country Program for Children (CPC 6).
The school supplies granted by the foreign funding institution are for the elementary school children in identified conflict areas in Capiz.
Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Violeta Silva disclosed that some 250 school children in Lunayan and Sinabsaban primary schools in Cuartero town, and in Gavino M. Navarra Elementary School and Pinay Elementary School in Mambusao, Capiz have been granted school bags with complete set of school supplies.
Primarily, the target children are those enrolled in grades 1 and 2. However, most pupils in the higher grades in said public schools have also availed of notebooks, ball pens and intermediate pad paper, Silva said.
Through the Department of Education (DepEd) and the local DSWD in Capiz, 430 more school children in Katipunan and San Miguel Elementary Schools in Tapaz town are also set to receive next week complete school supplies, namely, bag, notebooks, pencil, bond paper, water color, crayon, paste and art paper.
Earlier, 250 pupils in Mahabang Sapa, Malagab-i and Mainit in Cuartero, Capiz and also 250 pupils in Aglanot, Bungsuan and Gibato in Dumarao town have also received from UNICEF the same set of school supplies.
UNICEF has supported the provincial government here in the implementation of various programs for children to address their survival, development, protection and participation rights.
For years now, Capiz has initiated several anti-poverty initiatives that are focused on nutrition, child and maternal health and mortality, education, access to reproductive health and water and sanitation and other programs and services to address the rights of children.
These programs are consistent with the Millennium Development Goals, which the Arroyo administration is also working on to significantly cut poverty in 2015.
