City to have two fly-overs if...
Two fly overs would soon rise in the city. That is, if the city passes the feasibility study and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to be conducted for the proposed project.
The city is one of the 10 cities in the country dubbed as "candidate sites for the fly-over projects" which are under the administration's Tulay ng Pangulo sa Kaunlaran program.
City Mayor Jerry Treñas said the engineers coming from the Mabey & Johnson Ltd. are now conducting "soil testing" and "traffic amount" in the proposed sites. The Mabey & Johnson Ltd was tasked by Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane to conduct the EIA and feasibility study.
The two sites being considered for the proposed fly-overs are the junction of Luna Street and Jalandoni and at the junction of Diversion and Gen. Luna.
Treñas personally asked for the two fly-over projects to help ease the traffic congestion in the city.
However, he has no idea as to the total project cost of the two proposed flyovers.
The DPWH is the implementing agency of the Presidential Bridge project.
Treñas said the Luna-Jalandoni Flyover and Infante Flyover is already good as approved by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. However, before the project is implemented in the supposed local government unit, a study on its viability will first be made.
The mayor said the city will surely pass in the test on the "traffic amount" in the two proposed fly-over sites. He is hoping that the city will pass the soil testing test to make sure such project is viable here.
