Iloilo to host 10th Philippine Floriculture Congress

All systems go for the forthcoming 10th Philippine Floriculture Congress with the theme "Philippine Floriculture: Bud, Blossom and Beyond," which will kick off with a Trade Show and Exhibits at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol Ground on November 8, 2006.
The Trade Show and Exhibits will commence with the Cutting of Ribbon at 9:00 a.m. to be led by Gov. Niel D. Tupas and First Lady Myrna Causing-Tupas for Iloilo Provincial Government and City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas and First Lady Rosalie S. Treñas for the City Government of Iloilo.
A short program will follow at 9:30 a.m. with the Invocation to be led by Fr. Joemarie Delgado; Welcome Remarks, Provincial Agriculturist Zafiro Palabrica, Messages, Governor Tupas and Mayor Treñas, Overview of the Program; Atty. Myrna Del Soccoro, Presentation of Exhibitors, Mr. Baltazar J. Gumana and Closing Remarks, FIHA President Carolina J. Estilo.
The participants/exhibitors in Plant Sales and Exhibits, according to Ms. Salvacion Sibonga, Chair of the Technical Working Group Secretariat, must be a producer or grower of ornamental horticulture products and duly authorized or accredited seller of allied products; good standing member of local FIHA and National Federation; and either an invited non-member individual or invited non-member association.
She said, there will also be Landscape and Individual Plant Competition, which is scheduled on November 13-19, 2006.
Sibonga added, the Congress, which will serve as the highlight, is slated on November 14-16, 2006 to be held at the Sarabia Manor Hotel and Convention Center.
She said various topics will be tackled at Plenary Sessions/Sectoral Presentations such as the Industry Profile and Direction of the Ornamental Horticulture Industry; Breeding/Propagation and Field/Farm Production for Varieties with Export Potential (Aster, Azucena, Orchids and Ferns); Cultural Management of Ornamental Horticulture Production; Ornamental Horticulture Marketing System; and Post-Harvest Technology and Financial Support to Ornamental Horticulture.
Sibonga said the final day of the Congress is slated for Southern Countryside Tour dubbed "Flora-Visita Iglesia."
This activity is organized by the Federation of Iloilo Horticultural Association, Inc. (FIHA) and Federation of Cutflower and Ornamental Plant Growers of the Philippines, Inc. (FCOPG) with the Iloilo Provincial Government and City Government as co-organizers. This is also being supported by the Department of Agriculture, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Tourism, other government organizations and private sector.
