Conflicting reports on oil spill clean up

While Guimaras residents affected by the oil spill which occurred four months ago started receiving their compensation claims last week, certain sectors wanted Petron Corporation to go back to the oil spill affected areas to conduct further clean up operations.

Ilonggos celebrate Lopez-Jaena Day

Today, December 18, 2006, marks the 150th birth anniversary of the great Ilonggo hero, a famous writer and orator, Graciano Lopez-Jaena.

Graciano was born on December 18, 1856 to Placido Lopez and Maria Jacobe Jaena in Jaro, Iloilo City and history heralded him as the first reformist and the first among the Filipino patriots who dedicated their lives for freedom of the Philippines.

Oratory and Journalism were the tools with which he exposed colonial misrule in the Philippines.

Fisherfolks from the town of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras who were affected by the oil spill may incur delay in receiving their compensation claims.

Guimaras is now fast recovering, says Palace official

The island province of Guimaras is now fast recovering. This was declared by Presidential Adviser for Western Visayas Rafael L. Coscolluela, December 14, following the announcements that more than P2 million was released by the international Oil Pollution Compensation Fund (IOPC) as payments to some 200 persons affected by the MT Solar I oil spill.

4th Pantat Festival

Pantat Festival is Zarraga's biggest fiesta aimed at promoting pantat production as a promising agro-industry of the province held every 3rd week of December. In choreographed movement, participating tribes, mostly clad in traditional fishermen's outfit or wrapped in black cloth symbolizing the pantat dances in a synchronized manner to the beat of the drums.
