CHED stops implementation of NSQE
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has decided to discontinue the administration of the national Scholarship Qualifying Examination (NSQE) for the incoming CHED scholars and grantees for the School Year 2007-2008.
The move is in line with President Arroyo's directive to harmonize testings and organize a unified assessment instrument for college entrants, which is known as the National Career Assessment Examination (NCAE).
The NCAE is to be administered to high school graduating students from both public and private schools. The first National Career assessment Examination will be conducted on January 17, 2007. In the succeeding years, it will be conducted every last week of August.
The areas to be measured in NCAE are general scholastic aptitude, technical vocational aptitude, entrepreneurship skills, non-verbal ability and occupational fields of interest. CHED memorandum Order no.51, series of 2006 provides that the results of the NCAE will be used in selecting the scholars and grantees for its financial assistance programs among the top most performers in the said examination.
CHED region 6 OIC chief Education Program Specialist Rex Casiple, said that before, CHED Region VI selected its national and local scholars and grantees among almost 2000 applicants regionwide through the NSQE. Currently, CHEDRO VI has more or less 5,538 scholars and grantees in the region.
