Darag native chicken to get exposure in Dinagyang 2007
In its continued thrust to promote awareness of Western Visayas' Darag native chicken, the Darag IEC--Wesvarrdec participate in the forthcoming Dinagyang 2007. Its delegation, Tribu Darag, will highlight Darag native chicken through this advocacy campaign. Dinagyang is one of the best venues to reintroduce Darag native chicken not only to the people of Region VI and the rest of the Filipinos but to foreigners as well.
Darag IEC, is now in its second year in its advocacy efforts and in advancing technology, developments and breakthroughs in line with the production, marketing and commercialization of Darag native chicken. It aims to package and send out these information to farmers, businessmen, industry stakeholders and other interested individuals to help boost the native chicken industry.
Darag IEC is headed by Western Visayas Agriculture Resources Research and Development Consortium (Wesvarrdec), and is under the S&T Anchor Program for Philippine Native Chicken headed by West Visayas State University (WVSU) in collaboration with Wesvarrdec member-agencies and with the support of Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (Pcarrd-DOST).
This year aside from tri-media promotions and web presence, Darag IEC will make use of tourism as another medium to bring Darag closer to its target clients. Darag native chicken will be showcased in festivals such as Tinuom festival, Manokan festival and Dinagyang.
After the festival, Darag IEC hopes to increase not only the Filipino's awareness of Darag but their participation in developing Darag native chicken as the next big thing in the chicken industry.
