Special education program brings honors to Antique
San Jose, Antique--The Secondary Education Development and Improvement Program (SEDIP) which the schools division here has successfully implemented brought honors to the province when adjudged "Gawad Kalihim Awardee" during the recent Educators Congress held at Teachers Camp, Baguio City, disclosed Victor de Gracia, Asst. Schools Division Superintendent.
De Gracia pointed out that among the components of SEDIP, are the school buildings, trainings for teachers and secondary school heads, laboratory equipment, textbooks and other facilities.
The division had successfully implemented the school building component with 100 percent completion rate as of December last year with a total fund support of P228,798,901.09. The funding comes from Japan Bank of International Corporation -- 50 percent, national government -- 25 percent and with equity of 25 percent from the local government units.
In terms of equity generation, the division is No. 2 among the 15 divisions implementing SEDIP. The program is only up to this year, but the school building component is until 2009 said De Gracia.
On account of "Best Performance Gained" the schools division of Antique ranked no. 6 nationwide, based on the result of the National Achievement Test (NAT).
In the regional ranking of NAT, Antique is No. 1 in Region VI for the secondary and No. 3 is the elementary level.
As an incentive, 48 school heads are slated to visit North Cotabato come Jan 18-23 to further gain new ideas, sharing of good teaching and school management practices among others.
North Cotabato is a performing division and the visit to the place will further enhance the education and managerial capabilities of school heads to make quality education which is one of the government"s thrusts a reality, De Gracia concluded.
