City tourism officer off to Nepal
City Mayor Jerry Treñas said City Tourism chief Ben Jimena will go to Kathmandu in Nepal for a three-day leadership training and workshop on Localizing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Asian Cities through Innovative Leadership and Community Empowerment next month.
Treñas said Jimena will present the Dinagyang festival during the workshop. The Iloilo Dinagyang had been endorsed by the United Nations Development Program-Millennium Development Goal from among the festivals in the world but with the arrangement that the festival will reflect the MDGs program.
The leadership training is sponsored by CITYNET ( The Regional Network of Local Authorities For the Management of Human Settlements). The organizers will cover Jimena's airfare and accommodation. The city government will not spend anything on the trip.
Treñas made a statement on Jimena's trip to clarify that winning tribes in the recent Dinagyang 2007 competition will be brought to Nepal to perform. It is only Jimena who will go to Nepal and present the Dinagyang festival, he said.
The CITYNET is also the same organization that invited Councilor Ely Estante to India.
