MIWD implements water supply schedule
With the decreasing flow of Tigum River in Maasin which has affected the water level at its reservoir in Barangay Talanghauan, Sta. Barbara, Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) has started regulating its supply last Friday, March 16, 2007, in order that water will be distributed to all its service areas.
Engr. Edwin Reyes, interim general manager of MIWD, announced that some portions of Iloilo City and other towns covered by MIWD services can avail of their supply at a designated schedule.
Maasin, Cabatuan and subdivisions in Pavia such as Don Julio, CPU Centennial, CPU SLO and Westville Subdivisions can have water every Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for three hours only starting at 4:00 a.m. until 7:00 a.m.
MIWD consumers in Jaro, including Tabuc Suba and Alta Tierra area, can avail of their supply on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays within 4:00 a.m. until 7:00 a.m. only. La Paz, Iloilo City proper and Diversion are scheduled on these days, too, however for eight hours, starting 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Water supply for Mandurriao, Molo and Arevalo are scheduled on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays within 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Those service areas that are not covered by the schedule, however, will experience intermittent low water supply schedule.
Reyes said that the schedule will be followed until such time that the water at the reservoir will improve.
He also appealed to the public to always conserve water, especially now that summer is about to start and water supply is beginning to become scarce.
Meanwhile, Reyes disclosed that MIWD is presently working on the desiltation of basin 1 of its reservoir in Barangay Talanghauan, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo. Desilting involves the removal of silt from the basin in order to increase its storage capacity.
The district has completed, too, the desilting of the sedimentation basin in Brgy. Buntalan, Maasin and it will soon implement the construction of riverbank protection to prevent clogging of silts in the intake structure of the dam.
He also pointed out that the MIWD is on the last phase of completing a P207 million water supply improvement and rehabilitation project that will address of leakages that have resulted to non-revenue water and systems loss.
Meanwhile, Reyes disclosed that MIWD is also planning to engage in a bulk water supply agreement, either through the funding of the government or a private sector participation in anticipation of the growing water demand requirement of service area coverage as a consequence of its rapid growth and development.
