City Comelec: Nobody has filed COC yet
City Commission on Election (Comelec) has yet to receive certificates of candidacy from the interested local bets. The administration party is expected to be the first group that will file their certificates of candidacy on Saturday.
As of Thursday afternoon, the City Comelec has yet to to receive any certificates of candidacy from the prospective candidates. For the local level, there are 15 elective positions to be contested. The 15 elective positions are for the congressional post, mayoral, vice mayoral and 12 city councilors. The last day for the filing of the certificates of candidacy is set on March 29, 2007. The candidates will be assisted by Comelec Provincial Election Supervisor and concurrent City Election Officer Atty. Elizabeth Doronilla.
On Saturday, reelectionist Mayor Jerry Treñas, vice mayoral candidate Councilor Jed Mabilog, incumbent Councilors Juliene Baronda, Armand Parcon, Ely Estante, Eduardo Peñaredondo, Jose Espinosa III, Erwin Plagata and Jeffrey Ganzon will file their certificates of candidacy. Congressman Raul Gonzalez Jr will also join them.
New inclusion in the group, businessman Edward Yee and San Agustin Barangay Capt. Bobby Divinagracia will also file their certificates of candidacy. Former Councilor Antonio Pesina, lawyer Eldrid Antiquera and Lyndon Acap also added to the list of the councilorables under the administration party.
After the filing of certificates of candidacy, the candidates will woe the 226,215 registered voters in the city. Jaro district has the biggest number of registered voters as reflected in the records of the City Commission on Elections (Comelec). The district has a total of 53,816 voters.
The district of Molo has 38,941 registered voters. While, City Proper has 36,229 registered voters. City Proper has the most number of barangays but has only 36,229 registered voters.
The district of Lapaz has 29,633 registered voters. On the other hand, Mandurriao district has a total registered voters of 26,457. Arevalo has 22,594 registered voters and district of Lapuz with only 18,545 registered voters.
