Iloilo Watershed Management Council to hold stakeholders' assembly
The Iloilo Watershed Management Council (IWMC) is holding a Stakeholders' Assembly, on March 29, at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol Conference Room, from 1:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon.
The Assembly is an annual gathering of water stakeholders, where concerns and issues on water and environment are tackled for legislative action and local government units? development agenda.
This year's assembly will bring in important concerns which touch on the theme "Coping with Water Scarcity", which is also the theme of the 2007 World Water Day, as designed by the United Nations.
Four topics will be discussed, namely, Waste Water Treatment in Iloilo City, to be presented by Engr. Renan Escoto of the City ENRO; Protection of Aquifer, by Engr. Ronie Jagorin of the NIA 6; Water Supply Scarcity, by Engr. Tom Villaroman of the MIWD; and, Rainwater Harvesting, by Dr. Jessica Salas, of Kahublagan sang Panimalay.
Expected to attend are around 200 representatives of local government units, water and environment advocacy groups, the business community and the academe and media.
Ms. Sol Sucaldito, Assembly Convenor, said the issues and concerns that will surface in the forum will be formulated as part of the legislative agenda that the IWMC will push on elected officials so that the problems on water and water scarcity will be appropriately addressed with sound legislations.
