Stealing people's money
In biblical times, people caught stealing money were stoned to death. The guillotine or gallows was the place where corrupt citizens were executed in France and Germany. In the early days of the settlers in America, thieves were executed through firing squad. In the Arab world, cheaters were punished through beating and stoning. In other Asian countries, grafters were drowned in the sea and other stiff punishment imposed by their government.
In the Philippines, thieves and grafters in the government are freely roaming around until they have accumulated millions of stolen money and until whistleblowers report them to the Anti-Graft Court and the Ombudsman. It takes years before thieves in government are punished. There is really a democracy in the Philippines, the no. 1 most corrupt nation in Asia tagged by PERC organization recently, as to the stealing of people's money. Once the government thieves are caught, money has traveled to luxury cars, mansions, expensive jewelries, wide tracts of subdivision and farm lands, beautiful young women, fishponds, condominiums, stock markets, etc.
In every big government office, there is a Resident Ombudsman who is to monitor and report anomalies in the office to the Ombudsman. But the Resident Ombudsmen as whistleblowers are ineffective since the Regional Director or head of the Government agency is the one recommending them to such a sensitive position to the Ombudsman. There are a number of Resident Ombudsmen who are active in reporting grafters and corruptors in their offices, but later on when discovered, they are assigned to "Siberia", world war II famous Russian solitary place where during the Communist regime, many crooked persons and activists were confined.
Two leading dailies in Metro Manila have exposed recently a number of government anomalies like the purchase of P126,000.00 each computer given to a school coming from the Pork Barrel; the P389 million lamppost in Cebu; the P38 million to be returned by a retired Lt. General of the AFP Comptroller's office who is facing a case with the Sandiganbayan, and many more anomalies to come out as active whistleblowers will report to the Manila dailies and the Ombudsman.
The Supreme Court has reportedly spearheaded the fight against malfeasance in the government. A number of corrupt judges has not allegedly been spared by the highest magistrate of the land if only to get rid of the reported incompetent people in black robe.
With over 53 per cent of Filipinos starving and dying without food, our merciless Filipinos occupying higher positions in government are enjoying luxurious living with stolen money.
Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has vowed to fight the thieves in the government who are making her administration look bad in the eyes of world leaders. Christians are also seeking the intervention of God Almighty through unceasing prayers that the millions of pesos of Filipino will go to the amelioration of the poor and not to pockets of the few government grafters and corrupters. Will the issue of graft and corruption affect the candidates of the Unity Party? The answer is in the hands of Pres. Arroyo how to stop anomalies in the government. If she will just use her vast powers and throw out the government rascals in the government service, the endless suffering of the poor will be minimized and happy days will come back to the Philippines. Act now Mrs. President before the crooks pocket billions of pesos of the people's money.
Dear readers, let's help pray for our nation that senseless stealing of the people's money will stop and the socio-economic development of our country will follow. Praise God!
