Army troopers survive NPA ambush try in Antique
Government troopers survived yet another ambush attempt by communist rebels in San Remegio, Antique.
The incident occurred about 8:20 a.m. yesterday at Sitio Sarawag, Barangay Tubodan where about ten armed members of the communist-terrorists New People's Army (NPA) set up landmines here. The targets were apparently Army soldiers of the 1st Squad, 2nd Platoon “A” company of the 79th Infantry Batallion of the 3rd Infantry Division led by one Lt. Torres.
The rebels made its hasty retreat in the forested area of San Remegio as pursuit operations continue today.
No casualty was reported in the government side.
The ambush was believed to have been staged following daily combat patrols of the Army in Antique. A medical mission was also scheduled in Barangay Tubodan later this week yet with yesterday's incident and the apparent threat to the medical team's security, the schedule might be reconsidered.
