Local pols observe Holy Week
Local politicians have their own way of observing the Holy Week following the directive from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) banning political campaigns during the Holy Thursday and Good Friday.
In case of re-electionist Mayor Jerry Treñas, he along with his wife Rosalie and their children visited several churches last Good Friday. It has been a tradition for the Treñas family to visit different churches as their way to commemorate the death of Jesus Christ.
The Treñas family visited the Carmelites Monastery, Saint Joseph the Worker, Jaro Cathedral, St. Clements, San Jose de Placer, Sta Maria Church and Tanza Church.
In case of vice mayoralty candidate Councilor Jed Mabilog, he was seen in front of their house in Molo waving to people joining the procession. Some of the saints used in the procession and during the celebration of Easter Sunday are owned by Mabilog's family.
Earlier, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines appealed to all politicians and candidates to cease from campaigning during the Holy Week. Instead, they were enjoined to participate in activities and spiritual acts for their churches and parishes.
They were also asked by the Church not to take advantage of the religious celebration but prove their their sincerity in helping the poor. In the Catholic Christian world, Holy Week begun Sunday which is known as Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Sunday when Christ resurrected from the dead and bearing the promise of salvation and eternal life.
Meanwhile, the Iloilo City Police Office has no records of major incidents in the city as the entire Christian world observed the Holy Week.
