Media organizations offer free airtime to candidates
As part of media advocacy, different media outlets and organizations have designed debates and candidates forum to help electorates choose whom to vote in this May synchronized national and local elections.
The Iloilo City Hall Press Corps conceptualized a candidates forum dubbed as "Be Our Guest." The candidates forum is in partnership with Sky Cable-Iloilo. It is a one-hour program aired from 10-11 a.m. every Wednesday and Friday.
The "Be Our Guest" program is primarily for city candidates. The program is a venue for incumbent candidates to present their accomplishments during their incumbency. Likewise, the program will also serve as outlet for newcomers to present their programs and plans for the city especially in legislating ordinances.
On Wednesday, April 11, 2006, set to appear in the forum are former City Councilor Rolando Dabao, businessmen Pax Ngo and Johnny Young for the opposition side. Incumbent Councilors Armand Parcon and Jeffrey Ganzon, former Councilor Antonio Pesina, on the other hand will also represent the administration group under Mayor Jerry Treñas.
During its launching last week, incumbent Councilor Eduardo Peñaredondo, lawyer Eldrid Antiquera and Bobby Divinagracia for the administration and Lex Tupas, Atty. Roberto Liberiaga and Jing Espinosa for the opposition appeared in the forum.
Meanwhile, dyFM Bombo Radyo Iloilo yesterday launched its "Debate sa Bombo". It will cater to both the provincial and city candidates.
For its part, dyOK Aksyon Radyo starting this week will also start its Candidates Forum which will also feature candidates from the province and city of Iloilo.
