City ready for nat'l PRISAA Games
City Mayor Jerry Treñas said the city is ready to host the 2007 National Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) Games next week.
Around 3,000 delegates from the country's 16 regions, which will compete for the various sports events, will start arriving today.
Delegates will come from Region 1 (Ilocos), Region 2 ( Cagayan Valley), Region 3 (Central Luzon), Region 4 (Calabarzon), Region 5 (Bicol), Region 6 (Western Visayas), Region 7 (Central Visayas), Region 8 (Eastern Visayas), Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula), Region 10 (Northern Mindanao), Region 11 (Davao), Region 12 (Socsargen), CAR, NCR, Caraga and ARMM).
Treñas said, they have requested the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) to provide enough water for the various schools where delegates will be housed. The water will be rationed by the firetrucks to the different billeting areas in the city.
The participants will be billeted at the University of San Agustin, Graciano Lopez Jaena Elementary School, Iloilo Doctor's College, De Paul College, Iloilo National High School, Central Philippine University, John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime School, Western Institute of Technology, La Paz Elementary School, Western Visayas College of Science and Technology, Jaro High School and USA Sambag Campus.
Treñas said he has already met with Iloilo City Police Office Director S/Supt. Wesley Barayuga with regard to the security preparations for the delegates. Police will be posted in the different billeting areas to ensure the safety of the delegates and same time protect their properties from thieves.
Other than the water and security concerns, Treñas also demanded for both the Panay Electric Company Inc. (PECO) and Panay Power Corporation (PPC) for uninterrupted power supply.
With or without the visitors, the city should have uninterrupted power supply, he said.
The PRISAA is an organization committed to harness the potentials of the youth for excellence in sports, academic and cultural activities for a competitive and strengthened republic. Its goal is to develop leadership and global competitiveness to strengthen the morale and inspire the youth through sports, academic and cultural activities, promote cooperation, camaraderie and harmony among private higher education institutions, serve as the ideal medium to curb juvenile problems, implement the constitutional mandate and the national government's "sports-for-all" program, link and network with government and non-government sports associations in the country and abroad and become a self-reliant multi-sports association to sustain its operations and maintain its viability.
