DepEd tells teachers: Serving during elections is a sacred duty
The Department of Education (DepEd) tells teachers who will serve as Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) that it is their sacred and patriotic duty to perform their roles efficiently in the May 14 elections.
Atty. Jessica Sapalo, DepEd 6 Legal Officer said they have about 13,000 teachers who will render service and DepEd has prepared these teachers through a series of trainings and orientations, in cooperation with the Comelec and the DILG.
She also said that the teachers are equipped with instructions and manuals which they must review very well, and prepare their dispositions so that they can protect the ballots and assist voters in their respective precincts.
DepEd has created a Task Force at the regional and provincial levels to observe and monitor the day-to-day election-related operations, starting May 13 to May 15.
Atty. Sapalo said the agency has created the task force so that there will be a body which can immediately respond to the needs of the Board of Election Inspectors and of other DepEd personnel who may need assistance in the performance of their duties during the May 14 elections.
She added that the task force is a formal structure composed of a secretariat, a legal group and logistics to make it function effectively and efficiently. This is the first time that DepEd has put to task such a group for an election.
