Junk campaign vs. Zulueta, Tupas flunked?
Two councilorables who were subject of the alleged junking campaign ordered by Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez Sr. are currently included in the top twelve based on partial and unofficial tally of votes obtained from the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
This gives a bad signal for the barangay captains who were tasked to do the job.
Incumbent Councilor Perla Zulueta and neophyte Nielex Tupas landed in either sixth, seventh and eighth positions in the different results coming from the polling precinct levels. The results of the election returns in the precinct level are being canvassed by the Board of Canvassers at the Social Hall of the City Schools Division.
Both Zulueta and Tupas belong to the opposition slate.
Earlier, Gonzalez was reported to have ordered barangay captains to ensure that Zulueta and Tupas will score zero in their respective areas.
This early it can be observed that the number of votes they incurred is even higher compared to some incumbent councilors belonging to the administration party.
Zulueta is called as the Iron Lady at the Sangguniang Panlungsod. While, Nielex is the son of Gov. Niel Tupas.
Prior to the election campaign period proper, Nielex together with incumbent councilors Julienne Baronda, Jed Mabilog and Merci Garcia have already distributed t-shirts as their way to promote themselves. However, before the filing of candidates, Garcia did not pursue her plan to seek reelection. Instead, she and her family went to Canada for a better opportunity.
