Voters turnout in city still indeterminable
The City Comelec has yet to give official records on the turnout of voters in last Monday's election. Also, the tabulation of election returns has been observed to be snail-paced putting councilorables landing in the tenth to the twelfth places hanging.
City Comelec Election Officer 2 Jonathan Sayno said they could not yet give the voter-turnout for Iloilo City as they are not done with the statement of votes. The statement of votes will reflect the total number of the registered voters who casted their votes in last Monday's polls.
The city has a total registered voters of 226,325 and 1,144 clustered precincts.
Meanwhile, poll watchers observing the conduct of the canvassing of election returns at the Iloilo Social Hall complained about the slow-paced work of the Comelec especially the Board of Canvassers.
Sayno, however, assured that by 3 p.m. yesterday the partial-official results of the electoral process in Iloilo City could already be posted on a wide screen inside the canvassing venue.
The Board of Canvassers chaired by Atty. Nelia Aureus started the canvassing of votes yesterday morning inspite of the protest filed by congressional candidate Mansueto Malabor against Prosecutor Peter Baliao, vice chair of the Board of Canvassers.
In earlier interview, Atty. Aureus said they could not give a definite period on when to finish the canvassing of election returns but she assured to do their best to have it finished the soonest time possible.
