"I am thankful for the faith and trust the people have bestowed upon me and I look forward to (in) repaying this trust by continuously working full time for the socio-economic promotion and advancement of Iloilo City," part of Treñas's stament reads.
His announcement of victory was based on his high lead against his opponent former Councilor Joshua Alim based on initial counting of votes from the precinct level. In the same statement, the chief executive did not mention anything against Alim.
Treñas also thanked all those who supported his electoral campaign. He also said "politics is past and it is now incumbent upon all of us to work for the continued progress and development of the city."
"The May 14th political exercise and its various recriminations are past and behind us, the time to roll up our sleeves and seriously work for the upliftment of fellow Ilonggos is here. Let us not allow selfish motives, greed and passivity to rule our emotions."
Trenas also called for everyone to work together in the realization of his vision to make Iloilo City as Premiere City by 2015. The mayor has been working hard to sell Iloilo in terms of tourism and business opportunities. Businesses especially call centers are already operating in the city. Major infrastructure projects such as the vehicle fly-overs are done under his term.
Business minded as he is Treñas, also has a better plans for the old Iloilo airport. He wants a theme park, an IT center and hospital to rise in the 54-hectare Mandurriao airport. However, the bidding for the said airport failed. This is already Trenas's third and last term as city mayor of Iloilo.
