Accessible, modern post harvest facilities up
Roxas City -- Capiceño farmers are assured of accessible and modern post harvest facilities, according to the National Food Authority.
This is in line with the Food Highway Program where the NFA has put in place post harvest facilities for the benefit of the farmers.
The rationalization of existing NFA post harvest facilities and the modernization of facilities and national link-up via transport are among the main components of the P2-billion National Grains Highway.
The program is being set up to directly link rice and corn production areas to major consumption centers as well as calamity and isolation-prone sites, Cabinet Secretary Ricardo Saludo said.
Saludo explained that the Food Highway Program includes the National Cold Chain Program, National Grains Highway and the expansion of barangay food terminal intended to reach more people in more places around the country.
The Food Highway Program is part of the Hunger Mitigation Master Plan which is one of the priority agenda of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to fight the war against hunger incidence in the country.
Capiz NFA Information Officer Edna Artates said that among the post harvest facilities of the agency that are available for the farmers are its three warehouses, dryers, truck scale and modern municipal level grains center.
