2 soldiers killed, 3 wounded in shootout at army camp
Bacolod City -- Two Army soldiers were killed while three others were wounded in a shootout sparked by a heated argument shortly before 7 o'clock Friday night at an Army headquarters in Barangay Bato, Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
Lt. Col. Felicisimo Budiongan, chief of the Task Force North of the Philippine Army's 303rd Infantry Brigade, identified the fatalities as Private First Class Leo Erasmo, and 1st Lt. Joey Lacson, platoon leader.
The wounded were Privates Jomel Jamillarin, 24 of Dingle, Iloilo; Roldan Nodalo, 23, and Remjie Concepcion, 23.
They all belong to the 32nd Division Reconnaissance Company based in Barangay Bato, Sagay under Capt. Jamal Bonza.
Lt. Col. Budiongan said the incident took place shortly before 7 in the evening Friday during a routine formation of the soldiers at their headquarters.
A heated argument ensued between Erasmo and Lacson which triggered the shootout that wounded their colleagues and resulted to the duo's death, he said.
The victims were brought to the Alfredo E. Marañon Memorial District Hospital in Bato, Sagay, but the three wounded were later transferred to the Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod.
The headquarters of the 32nd Recon Company is located some 90 kilometers north of Bacolod.
Budiongan told newsmen they are still conducting further investigations into the case.
