Revenue agencies step up efforts
Roxas City -- Government collection agencies are determined to undertake all measures to maintain their target revenues.
this year's target revenue goal of more than P415.7 million of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Capiz, they are stepping up their tax campaign activities at all levels.
Collection Supervisor Socorrro Corros-Besa of the BIR here disclosed that from January to June this year, they were already able to collect more than P201.31 million in revenues.
Besa said that over the same period last year, they were able to raise more than P177.25 million.
According to Besa in June this year alone, their revenue collection reached more than P31.03 million.
Despite some challenges in meeting revenue collections, the government is sticking to its tax target of P958 billion for 2007, Finance Secretary Margarito Teves said.
Teves said that the BIR will maintain its target revenues of P370 billion by the end of this year, while the Bureau of Customs (BOC) is expected to collect P228 billion during the same period.
Teves said that remedial measures have been undertaken to cover the shortfall in revenue collection amounting to P53 billion for the first six months as against the target collections.
Despite the expected shortfall of revenues during the first semester, Teves said that the government has no plan to cut down expenditures on social services and infrastructure projects.
