PYAP marks 34th anniv with sports, art contest
The Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP), mostly composed of out-of-school youth, will mark its 34th Foundation Day with a series of sports and arts competitions on July 29, 2007 at the Jaro Covered Gym.
Dubbed as Gintong Araw ng PYAP with the theme, "Kabataa'y Pasiglahin, PYAP Palakasin," the activity is expected to converge hundreds of PYAP members from 21 Provincial and City federations all-over Western Visayas. Activities to be conducted include foot parade in the main streets of Jaro, thanksgiving mass, photo exhibits, on-the-spot painting contest, volleyball and basketball tournaments, dancesports and popdance and awarding of plaque of appreciation.
"The activity aims to increase the awareness of the Ilonggo youth regarding the various programs and services of DSWD and other social technology projects designed to promote their total well-being. Organization of the PYAP and training the Youth Development Leaders in various skills capability building activities are the strategies utilized to effectively deliver the programs and services for the youth," said Eduardo "Che" Guevarra, Regional Youth Development Coordinator of DSWD Field Office VI.
Chaired by Narciso Abad III, President of the Regional Federation of PYAP, the various PYAP chapters will hold policy advocacy fora on RA 8084 otherwise known as "The Youth in Nation Building Act," Adolescent Responsible Sexuality, Drug Abuse Prevention forum. There will also be an open house and program orientation of SCALA program at the SCALA ICT Centers in Sagay, Bago, Talisay City and Cauayan, Negros Occidental and Iloilo City. Community building and weekly youth brigades will be undertaken by the various barangays PYAP chapters in Region VI.
