Bacolod exec elected League of Cities vice-chair
Negros Occidental -- Bacolod City Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia was elected National Vice Chairman of the League of Cities of the Philippines during its elections held Sunday at the Traders Hotel in Manila.
Coming next to neighboring island Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, Leonardia was elected to the 2nd highest position in LCP.
National President is Manduluyong Mayor Benhur Abalos, Jr. who vowed to make the league "vibrant and responsive" organization of chief executives all over the country.
Meanwhile, Mayor Leonardia is among the few local government unit officials who were invited by Malacañang to a press conference prior to the State of the Nation Address of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo today.
Together with Leonardia are Treñas; Abalos; Binalonan, Pangasinan Mayor Ramon N. Guico, Jr. For Governors, among those in the list are Gov. Ben O. Evardone of Eastern Samar; Gov. Luis Raymund Villafuerte of Camarines Sur and Gov. Loreto Leo S. Ocampo of Misamis Occidental.
Fred C. Lumba, Director IV, Office of the Political Coalition Affairs said that members from the national tri-media will be present in the said pre-SONA press conference at 9:30 in the morning (Monday) at the Manila Hotel.
Leonardia likewise guested on a national television program "Tinig ng Bayan" hosted by Freddie Abando, over Nation Broadcasting Network (NBN). NBN is aired in Bacolod City through cable channel 6 and local channel 2 and shown in 12 provincial relay stations and worldwide through the international stations in the Middle East, USA and Canada.
The Bacolod chief executive consider his being elected as vice-chairman of the LCP as an opportunity to enhance the image of the Bacolod as well as raise the level of respect of other local chief executives of other cities.
