Citizens urged to supplement feeding programs in schools
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Education (DepED) said private citizens also do well in starting feeding programs to supplement what schools are doing.
One of the takers in this challenge is Mr. Alex Palabrica of Bgy. Balabago in Jaro, who, out of his own resources, starts to provide supplementary feeding to about 100 malnourished children, from prep school to Grade VI at the Balabago Elementary school, this July 27, 2007.
Palabrica said, he thought of starting this feeding project in his barangay to help the malnourished elementary pupils recover and perform better in school.
He did some coordination work with the DSWD and the principal of the school, and hoped to be able to conduct this feeding activity on a monthly basis.
He also said, his feeding activity may even include rice distribution to complement in a small way what the government has started in its Hunger Mitigation Program.
Palabrica starts his feeding activity, he said, as part of the celebration of Nutrition Month this July, to encourage other citizens to contribute to the improvement of early good nutrition of kids to ensure a better future for them.
