DPWH supports anti-graft drive
The Department of Public Works and Highways Region VI (DPWH VI) has expressed its commitment to help in the anti-corruption program of the government.
Director Rolando M. Asis said in a PIA interview that the DPWH has promulgated DPWH Code of Conduct for its officials and employees, where they are reminded to abide to it at all times.
"Corruption has become a perennial problem not only with the DPWH but the entire bureaucracy and our Department has expressed serious concern in its drive and call to eradicate, if not, minimize this social ill through institution of various reforms in our organization," Director Asis said.
He said that he has exhorted his officials and personnel to be "committed to the challenge of changing the image of their Department from one that is corrupt to the one that is reflective of its vision to be a model agency in improving the life of every Filipino through quality infrastructures.
The DPWH VI Director reminded his officials and personnel "to continue to uphold the principle that public office is a public trust, and public officers and employees must at all times be accountable to the people and serve them with utmost responsibility, integrity, efficiency and lead modest lives."
Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary Ricardo Saludo said that the Transparency International survey showing that the Philippines is the 8th most corrupt country in the world was merely based on perception. The recent SWS survey on corruption was more indicative of the actual situation as the questions were more objective. The government would make use of the latest SWS results as basis for drawing up new strategies and programs to be strengthened or introduced to be able to dramatically reduce the opportunities of corruption.
