Antique raises alert on dengue cases
San Jose, Antique -- The Provincial Health Office (PHO) reported a total of 110 suspected dengue cases in the province since the onset of rainy season.
"We are so blessed that no death was reported so far, however the case is increasing since the local hospital reported admission of suspected dengue patients everyday", said Mildred Quilino, Information Officer of PHO.
The town of San Jose, Antique's capital has the highest number of cases with 34 all admitted in the Delegate Angel Salazar Memorial Hospital. The Municipality of Tobias Fornier has 31 followed by Sibalom with 16 cases. Other towns with suspected dengue cases are Hamtic with 12, Anini-y -- 6, Barbaza -- 4, Belison-3, San Remigio -- 2 and Valderrama and Culasi with one case each.
Quilino further said that most of the cases are in stage one and two while some in stage 3 were brought to hospitals in Iloilo. Sporadic cases of water borne diseases like diarrhea and respiratory tract infections were reported but not of alarming proportions.
PHO enjoined everyone to observe the 4:00 o'clock habit and double its efforts in cleanliness and sanitation to ward off dengue mosquitoes and keep out germs that caused water borne and other diseases. Local government units are also urged to mobilize communities/barangays to undertake clean-up of their surroundings not only today but always.
