Additional fund needed for Sooc drainage system
The city government needs another P1.2 million to address the drainage problem in Sooc, Mandurriao after some changes were made in the project design. The amount is on top of the P1.2 million previously allotted for the construction of the drainage system.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said the City Engineer's Office (CEO) suggested to construct an open culvert of 2.5 meters to accommodate the flood waters instead of constructing a tunnel type drainage system.
Sooc, Mandurriao is one of the areas in the city that becomes flooded whenever heavy rains occur. Residents have long been asking the city government to look into their problem.
The proposal to change the drainage design came after the CEO and the Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office made an inspection in the area. The inspection team also found out that the Calajunan creek is already constricted as a result the volume of water goes down to Sooc, said Treñas.
