DOLE urges joint efforts vs illegal recruitment
Department of Labor and Employment VI (DOLE VI) Assistant Regional Director Crispin Dannug stressed the importance of close partnership between local government units, government agencies and other concerned in the fight against illegal recruitment.
Speaking during the recent Anti-Illegal Recruitment and Trafficking In Persons Campaign Seminar held here in this city, Dannug said it is the poor who are often the first victim of illegal recruitment in their wish to go abroad for a better future.
Dannug added that the seminar is intended to further strengthen efforts to combat illegal recruitment that impairs the work of people.
The one-day activity was participated in by representatives of concerned government agencies, law enforcement agencies, recruitment agencies, Provincial Employment Service Offices, local government units and media in Panay Island.
Participants were briefed on the Anti-Illegal Recruitment Program of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) by POEA Licensing and Regulation Office Director Atty. Melchor Dizon. He also briefed participants on the Applicable Laws on Illegal Recruitment (RA 8042) and Applicable Laws on Trafficking in Persons (RA9208).
On the other hand, Atty. Romelson Abbang of the POEA Operations and Surveillance Division talked on the Modus Operandi of Illegal Recruiters, the 10 Don't's to avoid Illegal Recruitment and Introduction to Illegal Recruitment – Free LGUs.
Other resources persons during the seminar are POEA VI Officer-in-Charge Rhea Glynda Calantas who talked on the Effective Implementation of the Pre Employment Orientation Program and Atty. Marie Angelica Madrid who gave the Profile of IR cases in Region VI. (PIA)
