Capitol SP hears plaint of Tigbauan folks vs Smart transmitter
Members of the Capitol's Committee on Transportation and Communication meet tomorrow for a public hearing on the planned transmitter of Smart Communications Network.
Set at 2 p.m., venue is the Iloilo Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SP) session hall with the complainants led by Isidro Minerva of Barangay Barroc, Tigbauan, Iloilo.
To recall, the Tigbauan Municipal Council approved a Resolution last June 25 that gave the nod on the proposed installation of said Smart Communications transmitter. Yet locals banded with banners and flyers distributed here expressing objection on the project primarily for health reasons.
It was not immediately clear if residents were consulted prior to the town's passage of the Resolution.
Board Member Angel Briones is committee chairman. The News Today (TNT) learned that notices for the public hearing were likewise sent out to board members Mac Napulan (First District), June Mondejar (Second District), Richard Garin (First District), Jesus Salcedo (Fifth District), Mariano Malones (Third District) and Shalene Hidalgo (Fourth District).
The hearing is expected to come up with a compromise agreement between the complainants and the project proponents. This, alongside recommendations that aimed at resolving the concerns of the residents on particular health issues blamed on the cellsite cum transmitter.
