Slain Lambunao SK laid to rest
Slain Sanggunian Kabataan (SK) Chairman of Lambunao, Iloilo was laid to rest yesterday morning amidst cries of family and friends in her yet to be resolved killing.
Classmates and friends from the University of the Philippines in the Visayas (UPV) were in full force with a touching tribute given during the eulogy.
"We lost our star player in the Magnates Basketball Team yet more importantly, we lost a very good friend," a longtime pal who requested anonymity shared with The News Today (TNT). Bona Marie Catedral was the outgoing SK chair of Barangay Jayubo. She was shot at close range inside the family home.
Hundreds came in the funeral including town officials, colleagues of the victim's father, Vice Mayor Pancho Catedral.
Unfortunately, no suspects have been named nor any arrests made thus far.
To date, questions still hang -- was it a case of mistaken identity, a planned hit, an accidental firing, a 'political' killing or was there foul play?
Some two weeks in that tragic Tuesday incident, town police here have yet to release an official report nor any announcements made on the possible suspects and corresponding motives.
The victim was a Management student of the University of the Philippines in the Visayas – Iloilo.
To recall, radio reports disclosed that the victim was found in one of the bedrooms occupied by her father. Some six other family members were present including the vice mayor however the victim was allegedly alone in the room when the single gunshot was heard about 6:30 pm Tuesday.
The victim was rushed to the town hospital however she was pronounced Dead On Arrival (DOA) by attending physicians.
TNT then gathered that the single gunshot wound sustained by the victim was on the chest with powder burns visible to the probers.
Further investigation is still underway led by the town's police chief, Senior Inspector Elmer Armada.
