P25-40 B needed for Metro Iloilo-Guimaras infra dev't
The government needs about P25-40 billion for the medium term projects under the proposed infrastructure framework plan of the Metro Iloilo-Guimaras Economic Development Council (MIGEDC).
The P25-40 billion cost of infrastructure covers those medium term projects from 2011 to 2013. The short term projects from 2007-2010 are estimated to cost P21-30 billion.
Identified as possible sources of fund are private sectors, various fund sources such as the AusAID and good governance.
The proposal rendered by the Comprehensive Environmental Planning Inc. identified the peripheral urban zone and urban rural area as development zones. These areas have the characteristics of an agricultural, agri-tourism and tourism areas.
The report added that there should be an improvement in connectivity and mobility. An investment in tourism, protection of environment and reducing flooding and water pollution. Investment in improving living conditions such as housing, sanitation and health services. There should also be an expanded power capacities and new water supply resources.
The consulting firm also proposed that waste generation should be reduced and recycling should be promoted. Public transport efficiency and building of compact communities were also suggested. The improvement of marine biodiversity, agri-resources and conservation of land and water resources should also be counted in the future development of the Metro Iloilo-Guimaras.
Mr. David Goodwins, program director of AusAID, Local Governance Development Program (LGDP), said improvement of infrastructure is needed for the development of the Metro Iloilo-Guimaras.
Goodwins, was in Iloilo City last week to observe in the Metro Iloilo-Guimaras local chief executives infrastructure forum as AusAID is one of the possible funding agency to help in the infrastructure development for areas covered by the MIGEDC.
