Treñas condemns Batasan blast
City Mayor Jerry Treñas strongly condemned the bombing incident at the Batasan Pambansa Complex Tuesday night, which killed three people, including a congressman, and wounded 11 others.
"As city mayor and chair of the League of Cities in the Philippines (LCP), I condemn in the strongest terms possible the bombing of the Batasan resulting to the death of Congressman Akbar and two others and injury to several persons including congressmen."
In a very brief statement, Treñas said the House of Representatives is an important institution of our democratic government.
The perpetrators should be arrested at the earliest possible time, he said.
On Tuesday evening, an explosion occurred outside the south wing of the Batasan complex that instantly killed Marcial Taldo, driver of Gabriela Rep. Luzviminda Ilagan.
Akbar died of open fractures in the forehead and jaw while being treated at the FEU-NRMF Medical Center in Fairview, Quezon City.
The third fatality was identified as Maan Gale Abustanillo, staff member of Negros Oriental Rep. Pryde Henry Teves. She died while being treated at Capitol Medical Center.
Ilagan, Teves and nine other people were also hurt in the blast. Teves's condition has improved after being transferred to St. Luke's Medical Center, also in Quezon City.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has put up a P5 million reward fund for any information that could lead to the arrest of perpetrators of bombings while joint investigation by various law enforcement agencies are ongoing.
