DND, AFP thank students for gifts, letters to gov't troops in Basilan
Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief of staff Hermogenes Esperon on Friday thanked the students of Assumption Iloilo for the gifts, letters and money that they sent to government troops in Basilan last month.
Teodoro said the letters sent by the students have boosted the morale of the defense department, especially the members of the AFP that are fighting in Mindanao.
The grade and high school students of Assumption sent some 870 letters accompanied by 1,509 rosaries and more than P2,000.
The rosaries were blessed by no less than the president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Archbishop Angel Lagdameo.
Teodoro and Esperon visited Iloilo today where they also met with the ground commanders of the 3rd Infantry Spearhead Division to discuss with them efforts to curb problems on insurgency. (PNA)
