Search for outstanding police is on
A cash prize of P200,000.00 and a trophy are at stake with the annual Metrobank Foundation's Search for Country's Outstanding Policemen in Service (COPS).
The COPS is a career achievement award, which seeks to highlight the importance of fostering a cooperative effort between the police and community.
Hence, the Search looks for policemen and women who have actively solicited, mobilized, involved and organized the community to become fellow vanguards of the community.
Police Regional Director Wilfredo V. Dulay Sr. said the competition is open to all policemen who have been in the service for at least seven years.
"Every year, since 1993, a maximum of four Commissioned Officers, and six Non-Commissioned Officers win the prestigious award," Dulay said.
The Search is a joint undertaking of the Metrobank Foundation and Rotary Club of New Manila, implemented in partnership with PSBank and the Philippine National Police.
Qualifications of the nominees are as follows: 1) For Commissioned Officer category, nominees must have the rank of Inspector to Superintendent, while for Non-Commissioned Officers, nominees must have the rank of Police Officer I to Senior Police Officer IV; 2) The nominee must be of good moral character, not having been adjudged guilty/liable in any administrative or criminal case; 3) The nominee must not have been charged under a criminal information pending in court or must not have pending administrative charge given due course by any government administrative body; 4) Those who have been finalists of the competition for two consecutive times shall be requested to have a rest year before becoming eligible to join again. If the nominee has been a finalist three times, he/she shall be requested to rest for two years before he/she becomes eligible to join again.
The nominees need to be Rotary Club members or depositors of Metrobank in order to join.
In addition, the nominee must secure clearances from the National Bureau of Investigation, Office of the Commission on Human Rights and Office of the Ombudsman. The nominee must also be cleared from the PNP Directorate for Intelligence, PNP Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management and the PNP Internal Affairs Service.
Likewise, the nominee must have the nomination or endorsement of the following: 1) Direct supervisor in the PNP; 2) PNP Regional Director; 3) City/Municipal Mayor; 4) Provincial Governor Rotary Club; 5) NGO, Church organizations, etc. and, 5) TV/Radio station manager (at most one nominee for each category).
The nominee shall further seek endorsement from at least two of the aforementioned.
