DepEd pioneers STRIVE in Negros Occidental
The Department of Education (DepEd) is pioneering implementation of program to strengthen basic education in Negros Occidental.
Stage 2 of STRIVE, which is the acronym for Strengthening Implementation of Basic Education in the Visayas, is being implemented in Negros Occidental under the auspices of Aus-Aid and the World Bank, to back up the Basic Education Sectoral Reform Agenda of the government on quality education.
Dr. Lydia Antang of the Dep-Ed Non-Formal Education Division said World Bank data had shown that the province has not been recipient of foreign grant or aid on education.
Further, it has been noted, according to DepEd data, that there is relatively low achievement rate in Negros Occidental, hence, the need to support basic education through different modes like Alternative Learning System, Formation and Early Childhood Education.
Dr. Antang said DepEd has selected 12 pilot schools in Negros for the implementation of the four STRIVE components, namely: School-based management where local governance, policy and planning, carry implications on quality basic education.
The other components of STRIVE are In-Service Training, Learning Resource Materials Management and Development, and Monitoring and Evaluation.
STRIVE will also depend on the strong commitment of the local school boards to perk up basic education. (PIA 6/ESS)
