Malay dad seeks to review local ordinances
BORACAY, Malay, Aklan -- Malay Mayor Ciceron Cawaling urged the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) to review the ordinances in this resort island on environmental-related concerns.
The call to review developed in the midst of the continuing debate in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) questioning the charging of P50-peso environmental fee.
Reports said that Cawaling met with stakeholders, some of them were officials of the Boracay Foundation Inc., in Metro Manila to assist the local government in the review of the ordinances created by the local council in the previous years.
Earlier, board member Rodson Mayor called the ordinance on environmental fee charges "erroneous."
"It is erroneous because the Malay council wanted the 15 percent share of the provincial government to be returned to them by means of a government project identified by the council.
"I supposed, the province should be the one to decide what to do with the province's share on the environmental fee collection," Cawaling said.
The review aims to determine which of the local ordinance are still effective in this resort island and what among them needs to be changed because it is already considered obsolete. (PNA)
