Affordable shuttle service to New Bacolod-Silay Airport finalized

BACOLOD CITY -- An affordable shuttle bus service to and from the P5.3 billion New Bacolod-Silay Airport in Silay City is being finalized to shorten the the 20-kilometer distance from Bacolod City proper and the airport facility, Negros Occidental acting governor Elpidio Isidro Zayco said.
Vice President Noli de Castro and Pampanga Congressman Juan Miguel "Mikey" Arroyo will grace the inauguration of the new airport of international standard in the afternoon of January 18, Zayco said.
The first flights to land in the morning of January 18 at the new airport before the official opening in the afternoon based on the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC), will be a Cebu Pacific plane from Manila at 5:10 am, a Philippine Airlines (PAL) plane at 6:40 am also from Manila, and an Air Philippines (AirPhil) aircraft at 7:20 am.
The old Bacolod Airport in Bacolod City will be closed after the last evening flight out on January 17, Zayco said.
Acting Gov. Zayco said he will finalize with DOTC secretary Leandro Mendoza the concern for an affordable shuttle bus service to and from the new airport located in Barangay Bagtic, Silay.
He also said the streetlights along the 6-kilometer McKinley Road going to the airport from Silay proper are currently being installed but must be completed.
There is a need to put in place an affordable shuttle service between the new airport and Bacolod for during peak hours the travel time may take one hour at the least with the new airport located northeast of the capital city of Bacolod.
The acting governor added that the 10-kilometer shortcut cut road from Bacolod to the new airport will be completed later this year yet.(PNA)
