BIR Capiz '07 tax take overtakes '06 collection
Roxas City -- The government was able to rake in more than P390 million in taxes in Capiz for 2007.
According to Collection Supervisor Socorro Besa, of the Bureau of Internal Revenue in Capiz, the Revenue District No. 72 here was able to raise more than P390.569 million from January to December last year.
She said that said revenue collection last year was 12.8 percent higher than their annual collection in 2006 amounting to about P346.034 million.
Besa revealed that in December last year alone, they were able to collect more than P32.656 million in taxes.
However, said annual collection in 2007 was 5.66 percent short as compared to their goal of P414.005 million, she said.
Based on the BIR Capiz cumulative report for 2007, more than P246.91 million was collected from income taxes while the collection on the Value Added Taxes (VAT) reached more than P 97.63 million, Besa said.
Other Taxes collected were posted at more than P28.43 million, while the other percentage taxes and excise taxes reached more than P17.44 million and P0.14 million, respectively.
Meanwhile, the government remains on track with its revenue target and goal of having a zero budget deficit by the end of this year.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said that the government will raise P1.236 trillion in revenues this year which is more than enough to fund the proposed budget of P1.227 trillion.
The President earlier said that the government is also determined to go after tax cheats and prosecute them, stressing that there would be no "sacred cows" in the campaign against tax evasion. (PIA)
