Social Welfare Secretary Esperanza I. Cabral graced the blessing and inauguration of the newly-renovated DSWD Field Office VI last January 30, 2008.
Jaro Archbishop Angel N. Lagdameo officiated the blessing of the office based in M.H. Del Pilar, Molo, Iloilo City.
"I would like to extend the greetings of everybody in the department most especially to social workers and staff of Field Office VI. We also extend our Congratulations for this new building. A nice building is important but what is even more important are the people who will occupy the building," said Cabral in her message during the short program that followed the blessing.
The structure was built wayback in 1974 under the leadership of Secretary Estefania Aldaba Lim and Regional Director Ana A. Bellosillo and has not undergone major repair till year 2006. In 2006, already under the leadership of Cabral and stewardship of OIC-Regional Director Teresita S. Rosales, the roofing was repaired with a P2 million funding. The repair of the office proceeded with another P3.3 million funding released in 2007. Renovation was completed this January.
"I know that all of you will be true to the commitment of the department. I’m happy that we are able to provide you with a better working space but with that is the additional challenge to prove yourselves even better," added Cabral as she addressed her statement to the workers of DSWD.
For her part, Director Rosales said, "We hope that the change in working environment will give more positive energy and enthusiasm among the staff and will continue to motivate them to work faster, smarter and better. The building is only a building; what is important are the staff who work in this office. We are trying to improve our teamwork, relationship and capacity as a leader along social welfare and development."
Also present during the activity were top officials from other provinces in the region as well as other sectors that fully support the programs of the DSWD. (mcastillo)
