Treñas asks DTI to intensify monitoring of prices of basic commodities
City Mayor Jerry Treñas has requested the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to monitor all the prices of the basic commodities in the city with the recent round of increases in fuel prices. He said the Price Monitoring Council should take efforts in checking the prices in the market.
Treñas said he has asked DTI provincial director Diosdado Cadena to initiate steps in monitoring the prices of basic commodities such as rice, sugar, milk and canned goods. The increase in the prices of basic commodities is anticipated with the P.50 per liter increase in fuel prices.
The fuel price hikes is expected to revive mass actions from the transport groups. In Iloilo City, the different drivers association have yet to signify their intentions to join transport groups in Manila to protest the latest round of increases in the prices of petroleum products.
The check in the prices of commodities will protect the consumers from the soaring prices of rice, laundry soaps, oil and other basic needs. As of press time, the trade department has yet to release the results of their rounds in the different wet markets, grocery stores and malls.
