Iloilo's Bigasan sa Parokya sets limit on rice purchase
The Bigasan sa Parokya of the Jaro Social Action Center (JASAC) has now set a limit on the number of kilos of rice a consumer can buy so as not to run out of the commodity.
Angie Balatongle, who is assisting JASAC head Monsignor Meliton Oso in managing the Bigasan sa Parokya, said that because of the increased demand for National Food Authority (NFA) rice, they have set a limit of five kilos per person to make sure that other consumers could also avail of the commodity.
The Bigasan sa Parokya still sells the NFA rice at P18.00 per kilo. However, this could vary in the other 17 Bigasan sa Parokya outlets outside Iloilo City and those in Iloilo and Guimaras provinces because of the added transportation cost.
As to the conventional rice such as the 64 variety, the Bigasan sa Parokya in Iloilo City sells it for P28 per kilo with a maximum of half sack or 25 kilos per person.
Balatongle said that there will be a meeting on Tuesday between Monsignor Oso and the NFA official on how best to meet the increased demand by the consumers.
She said that their 20 sacks per week supply could only last for three days because of the very much affordable price of NFA rice compared to the commercial ones. (PNA)
